Iam just turned 50 yrs old. When I was 19 and pregnant with my first child i was diagnosed with nephrotic syndome.
After the birth I was put on 30mg of prednisolone which I took for the next 5 yrs the last 18 months i took azothioprine too. my nephrotic syndrome went in to remission and i was weaned off all medication. During the years that followed I had weight gains and losses and six children in all. Up to 5 years ago I held down a full time job and had a very active family life.
However after suffering a fall caused by my leg giving way i damaged my hamstring and sciatic nerve and was virtually immobilised for 3 months. It was then that I had to see a doctor for the state who said she thought I had all the symtoms associated with cushings. I had gained over 100lbs in 3 months had deep purple stretch marks on my thighs and abdomen irratic menstrual cycle hair growing at 3 times the normal rate and swelling of the legs the skin of which was like tissue paper and I finally developed a P.E which I was lucky to survive.
It was this doctor that told me to go to my own GP and ask to be tested for cushings. As he refused and I was and am suffering from depression I am here 5 years later with pains all over my body - joints and bones and unable to bend or do any thing without help - still wondering how I can get tested if my own doctor puts anthing that is wrong with me down to being morbidly obese - from excruciating 2 week headaches to water pouring from blisters in my legs which get infected and are so hard to cure.
