Where to start??
Three years ago my now thirteen year old daughter started to experience severe leg pain on the outsides of both of her calves. This place approximately half way from the knee to the foot would swell and hurt whenever she was very active. These were always attributed to growing pains as she was always 12-16 inches taller from first grade until present 7th. (Now 6ft. 235 lbs) This would also be when her acanthosis started to really be active.
During September 09 her leg pains would keep her from any activities and by the end of Nov 09 she would not be able to attend school again due to the pain. Let the TESTING BEGIN. Nerve test negative Ct neg x-ray neg . During this time Right foot starts to roll out so she is walking pigeon toed on her outside three toes.
Dec 09 she picks up something and hurts her back this now takes precedent wind up with neuro surgeon who wants to try everything before surgery. Extreme pain!! Back and leg sciatica and leg . I PROMISE SOON I WILL GET TO THE CUSHING'S.
During this time I hired a new pediatrician who ran bloodwork looking for cushings i believe due to these symptoms: Severe acanthosis around neck 4in. collar down chest under arms in hair around chin and nose, hypothroidism, buffalo hump, absence of periods, Central obesity, weight gain even on lowfat diet, Dry brittle hair, striae across arms and torso,Insomnia. Test revieled LOW CORTIZOLE off to peds endocronologist.
Another bloodtest that revieled low-normal cortizole low vitaminD, Took 12 weeks off this problem to have back surgery which removed three chunks of disc from her spinal canal. CT molegram would also show narrow spinal canal but enough room the surgeon said.
14 weeks post surgery and back pain getting better with therapy. Leg pain much worse, Both feet now pigeoned toed and walking on just the outside two toes on both feet. Exertion compartment syndrome negative. Hip x-ray normal, Gait catches the attention of all in the medical field --- No diagnosis at this point ! wearing out both ankles rapidly .
Lots more i,m sure but will update later. BTW brain scan of pituitary gland showed slightly enlarged but nothing else.
Thanks for reading and any ides that you may have.
